Similarities with K-pop's Blackpink are a 'coincidence': Malaysian girl group Dolla

Malaysian girl ring Dolla has been getting attention for the wrong reasons. The quartet has been defendant of mirroring popular K-popular daughter band Blackpink, including music, dance moves and even way choices.

Ahead of the release of Dolla's second album, Watch Me Glow, members Sabrina Rusli, Angeline Chai, Norsyasya Shahrizal, and Tabitha Lam addressed rumours at a press conference on Thursday (Oct 22).

"I understand that many believe we're copying Blackpink's performance styles, but it's only a coincidence," said Rusli. "We're trying to build our ain musical identity every bit a girl group, and Malaysia doesn't accept many daughter groups either."

The Malaysian daughter band'south debut anthology Make You Wanna drew negative comments for lacking in originality and promoting a sultry image in the proper noun of music when it debuted in March.

The 25-year-old told Harian Metro earlier that while Dolla does await up to Blackpink for inspiration.

Fellow fellow member Shahrizal attributes the similarities to their hairstyles.

Rusli maintains that Dolla has a "unique identity" and hopes to become a "new-generation girl grouping" in Malaysia.
